Miscellaneous Items

FPPS Miscellaneous Items

Supplies
You will receive a listing of items needed for the classroom and for your child at our Family Meet & Greet Evening in September.  You can also look at our student supply list on this website.  Additionally, we are very appreciative of any and all supplies which you can help donate to our school.

Folders
Your child will need to have one folder with two pockets (no brads) which will come to school and home every day.  This will be our main vehicle of communication and will include your child's work, art projects, calendars, notes, and other crucial information.  It is imperative you check and clean out this folder daily.

Field Trips
Occasional Field Trips will be planned for educational purposes and enjoyment of your child  Parents will receive as much notice as possible as well as a permission slip detailing the trip and any costs necessary.  Permission slips must be signed if your child is to go on the trip.  All trips are parent chaperoned and all children must be in the proper car seats as mandated by law.  Most of or trips are sibling friendly, but there will be a few where the trip is not conducive to siblings.

Birthdays
We will have a birthday celebration snack each month to celebrate all the children who have birthdays that month.  Please see your teacher to make arrangements for this class celebration and for any dietary restrictions that may be necessary.  All summer birthdays will be celebrated in May.

Show and Tell
Please see your monthly calendar as well as your weekly newsletter from your teacher for information regarding our weekly show and tell days celebrating the letter of the week.  This is such a great time for your child to share with the group and a great way for you to be involved in the assignment with your child.

School Pictures
We usually schedule one picture day for the year typically in the Fall.  You will have the option of purchasing your child's individual and/or class photos.

Graduation
We will have a very special graduation ceremony and celebration at the end of the year for all of our four year old students.  The students love this special day which is designed for them and is all about them and is the highlight of our years together.  It is a fun family time filled with lots of memories.

Discipline Policy
All children will be instructed as to acceptable behavior.  This will be reinforced frequently throughout the class routine.  Should a child demonstrate unacceptable behavior, the teacher will help the child by working through the behavior and labeling the feeling.  We will work on distraction as well as role playing on different ways to handle any situation.  If the distracting behavior continues, he/she will be guided away from the immediate situation to a quiet area to calm down and recover.  Should this behavior continue, the teacher will contact the parents, request a conference and offer ways to work together as a team to help the child.  We have many ways and techniques to work on rewarding positive behavior.

Fire Drill
We will hold monthly fire drills for each class and record our evacuations on a fire drill log.  Additionally, the state mandates two emergency evacuations per school year unrelated to a fire.

Neglect/Abuse
The staff of First Presbyterian Preschool are bound by regulations by the Maryland State Department of Education, Office of Child Care, to report any suspected abuse and/or neglect of a student and/or siblings directly to Child Protective Services.
